My Awesome Deal

I needed a change in the house. Everything is a neutral color so that I can change the accents really easily. I was looking around the house and I was thinking that I don't have anything in this house that is my favorite color, aqua/turquoise. I was at Khol's and seen these dishes on clearance. The store I was at had enough bowls that I could pick up 8 small bowls and 8 large bowls and 7 dinner plates. I bought those one day. The next day we went to another Khol's that is less than 10 miles from the house. They had salad plates too. So I ened up with 10 of each: dinner plates, salad plates, big bowls, and small bowls. I was so excited!! How much did 10 place setting cost me....... $91.99 (and that's with tax)! I'm still so excited! I LOVE these dishes, I love stoneware. I have decided that my kitchen will be aqua and red! My two favorite colors... When I have my own house the cabinets will be white. It's going to look so good. My inspirations..... the ocean.

Painting Cabinets

My hubby and I currently rent a townhouse in Southern California, at least for about the next year. In three to four months we will be looking for new orders. Yippee! I'm looking forward to getting new orders because orders mean that we might be buying a house. Depending on where the orders are for... I'm hopeing to move to Charleston, SC or Norfolk, Va. If we move to either of those places we are planning on buying, however if we move somewhere else we will most likely rent again until we are retired from the Navy (only four years and two months to go). I have been dreaming about my house all my life. Really! Ask my mom, I used to sit down with the JC Penny catalog or magazines, cut out all the stuff I was going to buy to decorate my house. Design where is was going to be in the house and what colors I would choose for each room. I still do the same thing. I love searching to internet for projects I want to try or idea that I love.

When my husband and I got married we bought a house, we only lived there for about two years and never got to do much to the house since we didn't have money for projects. The one thing I thought would make that house amazing was painting cabinets in the kitchen. The kitchen cabinets where custom knotty pine cabinets from the 50's, so not my thing.

I have always wanted a cottage styled kitchen, simple white cabinets. I love the kitchen above. This is what I wanted to do with my kitchen back then. Todays post was Painting Knotty Pine.
Before

After

Painting Knotty Pine caught my eye because of our old kitchen cabinets. I love the transformation of the stairway. There was a link with older post for the painting cabinets. I'm sure that by the time we get our next house I will know exactly what I want to do. Hopefully our budget will allow for projects. As I have seen on a number of sights you can make big changes with very little money.

Cherry Chess Pie

I'm looking forward to trying this Cherry Chess Pie. My daughter Madison helped me make the pie. We are bringing it to Bunco tomorrow night. It looks like it will be delicious.

Cherry Chess Pie
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. In a small bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add butter; stir until combined. Press onto the bottom and up the sides of a 9 inches pie plate. Bake at 350* for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Pour pie filling into crust.
2. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar, egg and vanilla until smooth. Carefully spread around outside edges of pie, leaving a 3 inch circle of cherries exposed in the center.
3. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until edges begin to brown. Cool on a wire rack. Refrigerate for several hours before serving.

Yield: 8 servings

*It was delicious. (I had two pieces.)

Rose Cottage~ Beginning of a Dream

Rose Cottage is a dream for the future. I decided that I would love to have a blog that I share home/decorating, gardening and cooking ideas. However I don't own my own home right now and the house we live in doesn't actually have a yard so the gardening and decorating are kind of on hold. I think about making this blog all the time but I don't really have much to share right now since pretty much all the walls in my house are white. I decided to start the blog now to share ideas that I would like to try out or of small projects I do. Plus I can always throw some recipes on here. I don't cook too much now but I do enjoy trying new stuff once in awhile. I like to bake and am trying to eat at home more instead of eating out all the time. Ding! A chance to share new recipes that I've tired and like. I have noticed that I like to make stuff so I can take pictures of it. Kind of strange, right? However, I look to owning our own house (maybe in a year or as long as four years) then I will be able to add more decorating and gardening ideas. Until then this will probably be an ideas blog.

I'm a mother of a six year old daughter and I'm seven months pregnant with my second daughter who is due at the end of August. I love decorating my daughter's bedroom since it is one of the room in our house that we were allowed to paint. My husband and I just finished the nursery a few week weeks ago. We painted the nursery and set up all the baby furniture.

Now it's time to collect some ideas!
